Ford built the 2013 Ford Shelby GT500 for the 20th Anniversary of the SVT Group and this extremely rare pre-production example is up for auction.

As the fastest and the most powerful Mustang at the time, the 2013 Ford Shelby Mustang GT500 carried the torch of Ford and Shelby’s legendary partnership forward. The year 2013 was special for Ford as well because it marked the 20th Anniversary of the SVT Group. So the GT500 had to be above and beyond the call of duty.

Keeping in line with that, this 2013 Ford Shelby GT500 listed on Barrett-Jackson is a one-of-a-kind offering. It’s a pre-production example manufactured in February 2012, several months before production began. With Ford since then, it went under the hammer in 2014. Now, it's back as an impeccable listing at the Barrett Jackson 2022 Las Vegas Auction, slated from June 30 to July 2 with no reserve.

Not only does this Shelby GT500 look stunning, but this mean machine hides a Trinity 5.8-liter 32v supercharged V8 under its sculpted hood. It's capable of hammering out a massive 662 horsepower and 613 ft-lb of torque while letting it fly at top speeds of 200 MPH. It was the first production Shelby GT500 to ever reach this speed, so it's a benchmark for Ford and the automotive industry in general.

It is also the last Ford Shelby GT500 that Carroll Shelby tinkered with, adding to the allure of an already illustrious partnership.

The 2013 Ford Shelby GT500 debuted to mark the 20th Anniversary of the SVT Group which means Ford’s SVT has to make it a special one indeed. To reach the 200 MPH mark, they removed the grille to reduce drag. A one-piece carbon fiber unit went in instead of the two-piece aluminum drive shaft to further reduce weight.

Once the pre-production model turned perfect, production began, leaving it somewhat redundant. In 2014, with just 3,700 miles on the clock, this historical Shelby Mustang went under the hammer.

Back on auction, this pre-production coupe is even more special because it wears just 17,077 miles on the odometer. This red and black Mustang has a lot of life and is just waiting to be yours if you can place the winning bid. It also wears two massive white stripes across the body, reminding us of the cars that brought glory to the Shelby moniker and made it a living legend today.

It’s one of the most brutal muscle cars of all time so expect six-figure bids.
